There was another side to Ma that not too many people knew of. Ma was a fashion designer. She designed most of mine and Debbie’s school dresses using kerchiefs.

Ma could mix colors, and put kerchiefs together like on one else could. Sometimes, she did this just before school started. Ma didn’t buy school clothes like most mothers did. She bought kerchiefs.
